Annual Tree Days

One of the core goals of the Stratford Area Watershed Improvement Group is to increase the number of native trees, shrubs and wildflowers in the watershed area, as well as to significantly improve the biodiversity in the region. Native trees and shrubs are available to watershed groups across the Island through the Department of Forestry, and SAWIG enjoys sharing this wonderful partnership with the community.

Historically, our tree day was held each May, with hundreds of trees given out to the public over a 2 day period. Over the last 2 years, we have extended our 'tree day' program to multiple days over several weeks through the spring and early summer. The desire for native Acadian Forest trees and shrubs is very evident in the communities in which we serve, and we want to ensure we provide many opportunities for people to grab their favorite plant species!

It's a joy to see the enthusiasm and interest community members have in planting trees and shrubs. This event has raised the level of awareness of reforestation and diversity. What a fabulous way to engage the community!
